TIME TO DO!
Gift Shop–Make items for the gift shop. Constance Joy,
Mimi Hatch and Helen Moran will ask Guild members to begin making
gift shop items at our January 28th Guild meeting. So this is
a GO to start making those items whether you attend the meeting
or not! At our April meeting the Gift Shop subcommittee will
also provide a work session devoted to the making of gift shop
items.
Prize Ribbons–Make prize ribbons. Susan Rojas and Deb
Martinez will ask Guild members to begin making our prize ribbons
at our January 28th Guild meeting. Our prize ribbons, as in the
past, will reflect the unique talents of Guild members. Templates
and examples of ribbons from past shows will be provided by Susan
and Deb to guide our creativity.
Quilt Fiesta 2008 — November 2007 Update
First and foremost, please note that our
dates for Quilt Fiesta 2008 have changed. The new dates are
October 17th —19th at the fairgrounds
location.
This change
will not have any major disadvantages and one BIG advantage—we
were able to rent the small barn—so, more space–YEH!
Our traditional dates for the fairground location were already
taken by a standing commitment from another group. So please
make your calendars with the new dates!
Other preparations for Quilt Fiesta 2008 are well underway!
Beginning with the finalization of our steering committee. We’re
happy to report the leadership for this committee is a balanced
mix of seasoned and new members. Chairs and co-chairs and their
respective subcommittee responsibility are as follows:
Treasurer — Sarb Sarang Kaur
Publicity/Advertising — Julie Filatoff and Kathy Tolbert
(Technology Support)
Quilt Receiving & Judging — Lynne Horpedahl and Lee
Meyer
Design & Hanging — Becky Gerwin, Barbara McBride, Nancy
Steidle, Marianne Williamson, & Sue Wyard
Gift Shop — Mimi Hatch, Constance Joy, & Helen Moran
Door Prizes — Ann Anastasio
Silent Auction — Jean Callaghan & Myrna Landt
Program Book — Cindy Barfield, Barb Seawalt, & Lynne
Horpedahl
Vendor Liaisons — Marianne Williamson & Jeri Beitel
(Support)
Prize Ribbons — Deb Martinez & Susan Rojas
These subcommittees hit the ground running with our steering
committee kick-off meeting held in October. Following the meeting
subcommittee chairs/co-chairs began working on the tasks related
to their respective responsibility. The following is a quick
update for subcommittee activities:
Treasurer — Quilt Fiesta 2008 budget will be
determined and appropriate procedures in place by December.
Publicity/Advertising — Publicity
and Advertising will begin its major advertising activities by
April. This subcommittee is also responsibility for ongoing technology
support for the Fiesta year.
Quilt Receiving & Judging — Categories
for quilt receiving and judging are being determined. A search
for a judge (or judges) is underway. A list of prospective judges
will be presented to the Board for approval in January. (Note:
This a new subcommittee added to manage a big part of our Fiesta.
Lynne has agreed to oversee this huge job with the support of
Lee.)
Design & Hanging — A logistics plan to determine the
most efficient use of space for the show will be developed by
mid February.
Gift Shop — Guild members will be asked to
begin making gifts for the shop at our January meeting. Work
sessions for making gifts will also be offered during the Fiesta
year.
Door Prizes — Securing door prizes will begin
closer to the show.
Program Book — Modifications to the information
from the last Fiesta’s program will be made and advertisers
secured. The program will be ready for printers in September
2008.
Vendor Liaisons — A plan for contacting and
securing vendors will be in place by the beginning of December.
Prize
Ribbons — Our prize ribbons, as in the past, will reflect the
unique talents of
Guild members — Members will be
asked to begin making ribbons at our January meeting. Templates
and examples of ribbons from past shows will be provided to guide
our creativity.
Wow–and we’ve only just begun! I know from our Guild’s “helping” history,
that when our subcommittee chairs/co-chairs ask for help beginning
in January, you’ll offer your talents without hesitation.
Have some fun and volunteer to make a special prize ribbon and/or
a unique gift for the gift shop!
I want to personally thank all of the individuals who stepped
up to provide leadership for the Quilt Fiesta 2008 Steering Committee.
I’m sure I can speak for the Guild at large in saying that
the donation of their time, talents, and energy is greatly appreciated
and will be instrumental in making our Fiesta a great and fun
event for everyone!
